Matala Sheet Filter Media

The various densities can be used in sequence or separately for unique filtration requirements. This is one of the greatest characteristics which Matala has to offer. No other media on the market can perform this step-wise filtration. This Filtration Media effectively separates large particles to small and still maintains a very aerobic and free flow of water without channeling.

Matala is slightly buoyant and will not sink to the bottom of your filter.

Stacked vertically or horizontally this media will float if not locked in place tight.   Cut your pads to fit tightly in order to wedge them in place; or use a few stones or bricks to hold them down if the flow rate is very fast through the filter.

Matala filter media pads work best with a slower flow rate compared to pressure or bead filters.  Consider flow rates between 400- 1000 gallons per hour per cubic foot of media.

Due to it’s rigidity the Matala can be wedged in place in the filter without support.

Matala Filter Sheets have the following characteristics:

• Full Sheet: 48″ x 39″ x 1.5″ thick. (120cm x 100cm x 4cm)
• Half Sheet: 24″ x 39″ x 1.5″ thick. (60cm x 100cm x 4cm)
• Quarter Sheet: 24″ x 19.5″ x 1.5″ thick. (60cm x 50 cm x 4cm).
• Weight per full sheet is between 6 to 8 pounds depending on density.
• One Full Sheet is 13 sq.ft.  One Half Sheet is 6.5 sq.ft. One Quarter Sheet is  3.25 sq.ft.
• One full sheet equals 1.6 cubic feet or 12 gallon volume.  One Half Sheet is 0.8 cubic feet.  One Quarter Sheet is 0.4 cubic feet.
  • As a reference, 8 sq.ft. equals 1 cubic ft of media.
• Semi-rigid and self-supporting
• Specific gravity: 0.95. Slightly buoyant.
